As of this writing it has been a little over 3 weeks since I "went under the knife" so to speak. I want to thank each and every one of you who have been praying for me, and I ask your continued prayers. God has been so good to me and Bobbie throughout all of this, and it has been wonderful to receive all the visits, cards and calls from all our dear friends, both old and new.
As most of you probably know by now, on November 11th, 2008 I went in for a heart cath. I had been having some problems with chest pain and shortness of breath, and my physician referred us to a cardiologist. I wasn't too concerned because I had experienced this type of pain about 8 years ago and had a heart cath that turned up nothing of concern. So my expectations were that I would go in, have the heart cath, and then the doctor would either place some stints or give me another lecture about my weight and lack of exercise. I had made no plans whatsoever for the possibility that I might need a more serious operation.
Imagine my surprise when I was awakened in the cath lab by a cardiac surgeon informing my that I was going to need a triple bypass! My surgery was scheduled for the following Thursday and I was whisked off to instensive care to await my surgery. Thanks to the drugs that were pumped into my system I only remember bits and pieces from the cath lab to the morning of surgery, but my lovely wife Bobbie tells me that many of you called or visited. I can't begin to tell you how much that touched me when she told me.
Thanks to the Lord, there was no damage to my heart muscle and I had experienced no heart attacks. A typical Pentecostal boy, I've spent my life going to church and then raiding whatever fast food restaurant was available when the service ended.
I was discharged on the fourth day after surgery and sent home where Bobbie has given me excellent care. I started cardiac rehab last week which is another testament to God's healing power. I am doing very well and I can't wait until I can get back out there doing what I love the most - singing and preaching.
But I wanted to say thanks to all of you, my dear friends, and to let you know that your prayers, calls, visits and well-wishes mean more to me than all the Big Macs in the world!!
